A Personality Worthy of Emulation

12  The younger son told his father, ‘I want my share of your estate now before you die.’ So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons. Luke 15:12 In the story of the father and the prodigal son, we see how the son asked his father for his share of his father's wealth while he was yet living. Where I come from, this is regarded as a taboo, and majority of the times, the father does not honour this type of request. Instead, the father calls a family meeting consisting of extended family members and the son is asked to repeat all he has asked of his father all over again.  At the end of this meeting, the judgement always goes in favour of the father, and against the son. In the event the  son is remorseful, he might get a lighter punishment like, Pleading with his father for forgiveness or he might get a heavier punishment where he would end up paying a fine even or being subjected to cleansing which entails appealing the forefathers of that...

Why You Should Give/Share With Others

13 But Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what’s left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son.   14  For this is what the  Lord , the God of Israel, says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the  Lord  sends rain and the crops grow again!” 15  So she did as Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her family continued to eat for many days.   16  There was always enough flour and olive oil left in the containers, just as the  Lord  had promised through Elijah. 1Kgs 17:13-16 In the world's system, giving causes depletion but in God's system, giving brings about multiplication. We see this in the life of Father Abraham, the widow of Zarephath and the woman from Shunem.  Abraham gave Isaac and got many nations. "Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the l...

How God Provides

“ Arise, go to  a ]"> Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” 1Kings 17:9 Photo by Kenny Eliason on Unsplash God is not unaware of our needs. In fact He has made necessary provision which we do not know about. Let's consider the story of Elijah and the widow in 1Kings 17:8-16.  After Elijah prophesied no rain on the land, he was commanded by God to go to brook Cherith where he was provided for by God through the  ravens . When the brook dried up, the LORD asked him to go over to a widow in Zarephath who he has commanded to feed him. We can see here that the widow was another unlikely means. The widow was gathering sticks to prepare the last meal. She had no hope where the next meal would come from. So she concluded death after she might have eaten the last meal with her son unknown to her that she has been ordained by God to feed a mighty prophet.  I am sure if another pro...
